What has become of Heavy Metal?

Heavy metal, a musical genre born in the 1970s, is characterized by its powerful guitar riffs, forceful rhythms and often introspective lyrics. Pioneering bands like Black Sabbath laid the foundations for the genre, fusing blues elements with distortion and dark lyrics. Iron Maiden, with their iconic Eddie, and Judas Priest, with their vocalist Rob Halford, have left an indelible mark on the scene.

Thrash metal emerged in the 80s with bands like Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax, introducing speed and aggression. The Scandinavian scene contributed names like Bathory and Mayhem, creating black metal with its somber atmospheres. On the other hand, power metal, with bands like Helloween, stood out for its melodic and epic approach.

In the 90's, grunge, represented by Nirvana and Soundgarden, had an impact, but the alternative metal also came with Tool and Alice in Chains. The scene nu metal of the late 90's and early 2000's incorporated elements of rap and electronic, led by Korn and Limp Bizkit.

Today, bands like Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold and Sabaton continuing to keep alive the flame of heavy metal, demonstrating their diversity and persistence over time. This genre, with its diversity of sub-genres, it is still an influential force in the music scene globally.
